Azmi Bishara, a prominent Palestinian intellectual, an Israeli citizen, a leading Arab politician and a member of the Israeli Parliament is the hero of this film. Bishara was the first to demand the transformation of Israel from a Jewish State into a "State of all its citizens" and is still the most articulate and eloquent speaker for this challenging political vision, which he presents as the only viable framework for a peaceful co-existence of Jews and Arabs within one sovereign state.
The film is based on a series of interviews with Bishara filmed in different locations on the background of scenes and landscape that reflect the conflict-torn land of Israel/Palestine. Bishara’s eloquence and picturesque language come to the fore as he speaks about the philosophical aspects of his political vision alongside its daily consequences, deconstructing the Zionist ideology and the particular role it has assigned to the "Israeli Arab." Bishara is a humanist and democrat whose discourse transcends the local conditions of a Palestinian minority in the Jewish state and reaches anyone concerned with questions of citizenship, nationalism, and political rights.
