Ayelet Zohar’s Communal Gardening project was set in motion with the establishment of a garden in Weizman School. The project relies on a fundamental idea that seeks to join together two concepts that are currently perceived as separate: agriculture and gardening. The garden is ornamental and at the same time agricultural, it combines local plants as well as plants and trees that are originated in the neighborhood residents’ origin countries.
The Garden was established by professionals and by the pupils and teachers who will work on it regularly. Zohar will supervise the progress of the project. The pupils will be given information and guidance; they will work, grow vegetables and learn about plants, vegetables and fruits from various countries of their friends’ origin. The garden will also use to raise the environmental awareness of the school in its whole.
Ayelet Zohar is a researcher artist who practices the subject of environment and the combination of gardening and agriculture. The garden will simultaneously offer an agricultural area for planting and growing vegetables at the heart of the school and a green lung, a cool and shady place that will enliven the school yard and turn it into a site of leisure activities, social interaction and creativity.
