video installation: PR movie, screen saver, distribution stand

State secrets and security are the twilight zone of civil consciousness, but its permanent, gigantic black hole comprises the economic and corporate obfuscation, deception, deceit, and sweet talk. The economy of entire communities and countries is dependent on [public corporations which do what they want with their capital. The smoke screen they put up is called advertising and public relations, donations and charity organizations.

In her critical parody, Talia Link unfurls her own colorful smoke screen: an advertising campaign and PR rhetoric dedicated to one of the strongest women in Israeli economy: Shari Arison. Arison tends to address the public with New Age codes and images of self-empowerment, self-searching, and self-realization, and employs soft tones of infinite optimism and goodness. Her untold wealth, as well as some of her actions and those of the companies she owns, have exposed her to a good share of scorn and anger. Link comes to the rescue, "volunteering" to help Arison; she does so with the language, weapons, images, and tone that Arison herself has bequeathed us. No secret is exposed. The thing itself (money, a lot of money, transparency, proper procedures, dubious appointments) is not mentioned. The essence of life, according to Arison, is pure goodness.
