Out of a desire to continue promoting projects of sound and after the success of the first program of HaPzurah, we have decided to offer a new series of performances. This time the program consists of two parallel parts. The first is dedicated to the promotion of original work of local artists in the fields of experimental music and sound art. These artists will be invited to work at the Israeli Center for Digital Art for three weeks, and develop projects which are currently in process. A technical and artistic support team will be available for these projects while the artists are working in the Digital Center. It is an opportunity for the artists to focus their work toward performance before an audience, while simultaneously preserving the flexibility and space necessary for a work in the making. In part, the performances featured in the second Pzurah program will be a culmination of the three weeks’ stay of each of the artists in the center.
The Pzurah is a meeting point, preserving the freshness of the working process without compromising the quality of the work and the unique encounter experienced by the viewers. Nine performances will be produced in this new series of Hapzurah, and they are presented in this publication. The second part involves performances of international artists in a ”special events” series. These will provide a unique opportunity for the Israeli public to be exposed to contemporary sound art and new music from different parts of the world. Local artists will be able to collaborate with the guest artists, and students may attend workshops and lectures.
The workshop Composed Identities will be presented by the artistic team of the new Dutch opera production, Yasser, based on the play by the Moroccan-Dutch author Abdelkader Benali and composed by Israeli composer Guy Harries. The opera deals with the inner conflicts of a Palestinian actor living in the Netherlands: his life as an immigrant in a different culture, his love for a Dutch actress, and his home country. Inspired by the themes of the opera, the creative team introduces aspects of their work and their method of combining cultural influences, socially relevant subjects in art, live electronics, and opera. Ilonka van den Bercken: cello \ Guy Harries: composer, performer Sabri Saad El-Hamus: actor \ Conny de Vugt: video artist
