Edwin van der Heide is a sound, space, and interaction artist, exploring the medium of music, presenting a re-defined musical language that does not necessarily relate to the concert music, and resulting in installations, performances, or environments.
Radioscape is a participative electromagnetic environment - An acoustical labyrinth where the visitor can enter an area with twelve transmitters, each producing its own electromagnetic sound field. As visitors navigate their way through this labyrinth of radio-waves, the receiver picks up sounds emitted by different transmitters, all broadcasting on the same frequency. These mix in the receiver, creating constantly changing balance and a unique composition. As one walks, one sound will slowly takeover from the previous while for example a third one is present in the background. The sound already transforms by moving only a couple of meters. The city is turned into sound and visitors create their own soundscape. The sounds are inspired on CB patterns and SW tuning sounds. Never literally referring but nevertheless creating one whole complex dynamically changing, multi-dimensional environment.
