The film On-going Tale (2007) by the Palestinian artist Shadi Habib Allah deals in the human condition by presenting a series of chase scenes, depictions of fear and senseless killing. The movie is constructed of many mini-sequences where the artist and the viewer have a birds-eye view of the archetypal stories of fighting and death. Alongside these, on another monitor, we see a different image: Two tribal figures frozen in place. The scenes do not bring any new storyline developments but rather form a catalogue of possible hazards and threats where the pursuers are also pursued: Humans hunt the beast, the beast hunts the humans, and finally the humans are killed with a thunderbolt from the sky wreaking death. The viewer’s omnipotent gaze swivels up and down, watching their helplessness from a lofty height.
