The Polish artist Artur Zmijewski presents the video piece Them. Zmijewski invited four groups of Polish citizens to participate in a video documented experiment in which each group identifies with a different ideology: an elderly Catholic group, a Jewish youth group, a human rights activist group and representatives of the nationalist organization, “All Poland Youth.” In a workshop that takes place in a single space, the invited groups were asked to graphically express their ideological beliefs using images and symbols. The workshop consisted of four meetings characterized by increasing visual and verbal violence, concluding with the last meeting where the artist asks the participants to end the workshop and leave the space after they have set fire to each other’s works.
