The project is funded by British Council and Arts Council England through the Artists International Development Fund and produced by Filmpro (London).

As part of the Center’s residency program, the British artist Çağlar Kimyoncu is arriving to Holon on February 14th and will be at the center for 3 weeks.

Çağlar is a digital and video artist, festival curator and arts consultant. His work is often focused on exploring representations of excluded voices, those perceived as ‘other’, whether due to sexuality, gender, disability or ethnicity.

Over the past fifteen years he has mentored and collaborated with artists working in a variety of media including film, video, theatre, photography and script development.

Kimyoncu will develop his project Objection, a multimedia art project, exploring stories of objection to military service.
It is part of an international research based art project exploring refusal to military service worldwide, particularly in countries where army service is obligatory. It aims to present a universal issue through individual stories.

He will work on this project with Creative Producer Shiri Shalmy.

Objection looks at the personal experience of Israelis who refused service in the IDF within the wider social and political context of army service in Israeli society and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

During his residency, Kimyoncu will continue his extensive research including a large number of interviews with objectors, academics and artists, and finally will carry out an intensive week of improvisation to camera with local actors. The resulting multi-channel film installation will be exhibited in Israel and the UK, followed by an international tour.
