Moving slowly in entertaining and somewhat exaggerated choreography, artist Navid Nuur attempts to evade light sensors installed in Berlin’s alleyways and courtyards. He believes that if he moves sufficiently slowly he will be able to outwit them. But his failure is a foregone conclusion. At a certain moment, the sensors register him, the lights switch on, and Nuur freezes where he stands like a criminal caught red handed. He waits motionless until the lights switch off before taking another step, and being caught yet again. When Doubt Turns into Destiny presents a simple, humoristic action in an everyday situation, and exposes the action of time in space. Slowing down cleverly substitutes speeding up as a tactic for evading, fading, and vanishing, and highlights the intricate connection between the control mechanisms of the two dimensions. As in his other works, Nuur finds himself in between: between space and time, between light and dark, between the concept and its realization.
