During one hot day in Bangkok, I asked Jesper Norda, a Swedish sound artist, and a Thai woman, an auto rickshaw driver, for permission to film them while they took their individual cigarette breaks. It turns out that both of them, unaware of each other, smoked their cigarettes over the exact same period of time, 00:03:36 minutes. Furthermore, there were nine moments in which their actions fell into sync. This coincidence became the criterion for bringing together this fictitious couple – local and western, in a city where such couples are often seen under different circumstances...
