White Line is the video which documents the performance, “Wallajeh,” realized on June 23, 2007 in the Palestinian village of Wallajeh located between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, Israel.
In White Line, Laurent Mareschal remakes a gesture generally attributed to "Land Artists" Richard Long and Dennis Oppenheimer: tracing a line in a landscape. In the context of the landscape chosen, however, the act fulfils a wholly different purpose - it marks a Palestinian village for the ’security fence’ which will encircle it and separate it from the rest of the West-Bank.
