A comic lecture performance piece, which lays out an analogy between the complex body of the state, composed of many different populations and that of self with its many organs. It maintains that in order to surmount our daily hardships as (a highly divisible) “in”-dividual we seek to unite all the contradicting drives, needs and wants under one regime such as: democracy, dictatorship, anarchy, and like the state we are always at risk of sliding into a state of civil war. In order to examine this analogy, a performance-interview with former Israeli gymnastics champion Karmit Burian offers a case study in self-inflicted “fascism” in which gymnastics is top most priority of the Karmit. She is interviewed about her choices and sacrifices, but also about her reasons and benefits for choosing such a harsh regime of self. Created for Intimadance Festival - Tmuna Theater, 2010. Dancer and creative collaborator: Karmit Burian Performed by: Karmit Burian and Rotem Tashach
