"Gaza, Tel Aviv, Gaza", a short film created for Gisha by Itamar Rose, places ordinary Israelis in the roles of those enforcing the criteria on travel from Gaza: specifically the requirement that requests to visit ailing relatives be submitted by first-degree relatives only.
Though the northern Gaza Strip is only about 50 kilometers (31 miles) away from the city of Hebron in the West Bank, very few people are permitted to travel from the Gaza Strip to the West Bank: mainly medical patients and their companions and a select group of merchants. This means that families cannot meet, university students cannot travel to the West Bank to study and job opportunities and other options for professional development remain out of reach.
The people in the clip were asked to decide whether or not to let the young woman visit her sick grandmother in Ramallah given the criteria in place for travel. Who let her through? Who chose not to? What would you have done?
