The filmmaker, an Israeli Jew, discovers boxes of old Nazi photos from the war at Franz’s house, whom she met in Austria. Over several visits she searches through the photos with her camera. At first she feels threatened, but then with humor and warmth Franz pulls her back to the unthreatening present, a place where a friendship can form despite the shared history of earlier generations.
