This is one of a body of work in which Bartana focuses on early Zionist propaganda films produced by the Jewish National Fund. In “Awodah”, Bartana presents a new edited version of the film “Avodah” (1935) by Helmar Lerski, a 'heroic' documentary that follows the founding of a kibbutz during the years of the British Mandate. Newly edited by Yael Bartana, Anat Salomon and Daniel Meir, this video is screened alongside Bartana's “Summer Camp” to which this film offers a template of stylistic devices.
