Le Touriste is a project involving two filmed performances which attempt to create narratives without the use of language, sound or text. The narratives are above all physical encounters as an individual, played by the artist, negotiating a personal dilemma regarding a public encounter.
The idea of the tourist is as a starting point and metaphor for a condition where one strongly desires a new insight, understanding or relationship with the world, but at the same time fears letting go of the past. The artist is interested in the tourist as someone who places him/herself in a situation where they cannot understand or receive very much but are stimulated by the newness and glimpses of something hidden. This might be described as a situation where the physical reality is very present and unusual but equally present is the desire to project onto it. The main objective with this installation was to find a way to make the viewer feel physically and emotionally complicit in the narrative.
Filmed in Paris and Tourcoing, France. 16 mm film and mini-DV. Actress : Mathilde Rosier | Camera (film) Vincent Pinckaers | Camera assistant : Pukyo Ruiz de Sumurcuccio | Camera Video : Alain delle Negra | Charge de production : Xiao Xing Cheng | Assistant Directors : Cecile Dauchez, Sabrina Montieul Soto, Blaise Beorgoise | Casting : Elsa Pharoan | Catering : Marlene Rabaud and Slavica Cerpakovic | Extra : Christine Solai.
