Cultural exchange between different geographies can expose similar experiences and parallel histories. These can solely be traced in specific art works. Such works inhabit “communicative aspects” and therefore, can propose an alternative channel to any global communication medium for receiving and sharing information. This project aims to detect such works and to construct links between various geographies through exceptional discoveries.
The geo-political reality of the Middle East determines the conditions for cultural and art productions. The isolation and inability to cross borders is a basic mode of living that shapes and influences Israeli art and culture. In that context, the Israeli Center for Digital Art, Holon has been involved in different types of international collaboration projects over the past two years. These projects focused on diverse realities from different geographies, and challenged the common imageries, associated with the conditions and hardships of their countries. The basic motivation behind such collaborations was to establish a regional cultural network that will become a platform for sharing experiences and ideas.
The first stage of Serial Cases presented in the following weeks, is an exchange Video Screening Program among different cultural and art centers. The expansion of the geographical boundaries of the network from the Middle East towards the area of the Balkan has a potential to reveal additional modes of information about the regions. It is expected that exploring such inputs will be the basis for the projected screening program.
