An archive for video art and digital media has been operating at the Israeli Center for Digital Art , Holon for serval years now. The archive contains more than 1500 titeles, including works by israeli and international artists who exhibited at the center, and works by artist who have contributed works over the years. following many requests by local scholars, students and art lovers we decided to transform the collection into a video archive open to the public. The idea for ” The A rchive” project originated in the feeling that video programs are not accessible enough. A video program, like an exhibition, requires time digestion, and often- repeated viewing. The video program format is the consequence of festivals where maximum content must be viewing of programs whose liftime was limited. we believe that good works must be viewed more than once, and if possible, in a different curatorial context and/or concept. The archive is intended primarily to represent local contemporary artistic practice. It is distinguished by a concentration of local and regional ( near east) work and by creating work contacts with similar bodies worldwide, based on exchange of information, knowledge and work collections, enabling the expansion of the archive and the promotion of israeli artist abroad.
