The starting point of "Inferno" is the contemporary construction of the Third Temple (Templo de Salmão) by a neo-Pentecostal church in Brazil. The new temple, built according to Biblical specifications, is a copy of the First Temple in Jerusalem, the violent destruction of which heralded the exile of the Jewish people in the sixth century BC. "Inferno" confronts a mixture of place, history and faith, and offers an insight into the complex reality of Latin America that led to the construction of the temple today. Bartana's film celebrates the desire of the temple, the ritual and the inevitable destruction, in the wake of which a new culture emerges, our contemporary culture.
