The print workshop at the Israeli Center for Digital Art in the Jessy Cohen neighborhood was founded in collaboration with Dfus Golem, a publishing house specializing in relief printing and art books. The workshop is led by Uriel Hartov, owner of Dfus Golem. One of the main objectives of the Print Workshop is to expose the general public to work methods that have been relegated to the sidelines since the advent of digital printing. The Print Workshop is equipped with a manual printing press, a relief printing press, and a digital printer.

In the Print Workshop students will gain experience in the various stages entailed in the craft of relief printing, from planning the image, preparing the plates for printing, and introduction to the required tools, to the printing process itself with a manual printing press (the technique of preparing the plates for printing – linocutting, wood veneer, monoprint – will be selected in accordance with the students’ age). There is a choice of different subjects: self-portrait, movie poster, printing a “daily newspaper” (graphic interpretation of current affairs featured in the newspaper), and “my neighborhood” (creating a map from memory).

The Workshop

Basic understanding of the printing process + various examples

Introduction to the various tools, operating them, and basic safety rules

Making sketches and drawings of the idea

Planning the print and preparing the plate for printing

Printing and corrections

Concluding discussion
