Ran Slavin is an artist, film maker, writer, video and audio artist. His approach to film making relies foremost on the visual language and its parallels in audio and vise versa. His approach to film making is that of the auteur to the extent that he shoots edits and scores the soundtracks to all of his films and videos. His diverse catalogue of videos blurs distinctions between present and future, documentary, digital and fiction and presents a hybrid of moving images, stills in motion, at times on the threshold of digital painting, resulting in dream like sequences, intense suspension and altered states. As an artist, film maker, writer, video and audio artist, he exhibits his work internationally with video installations, live-video-sound improvisations and digital music releases. His work is gaining presence with many international screenings, exhibitions and performances. The live cross media concerts of Ran Slavin are an ongoing project. They vary in length and subject, each concert is unlike the other. Layers of videos and text are processed and juxtaposed then translate into raw sound via oscillators that tap into the speed and colors of the image. With custom video and sound tools which Ran uses to control layers of video and text, each variation produces the change in rhythm and sound of the soundtrack. Its an attempt at ’hearing the image’ and real time ’cause and effect’. Each performance is a cinematic stream of video, sound and text improvised live, tapping into a virtually endless stream of possibilities and juxtapositions of morphing dream worlds. |
